My 1989 S2

Me and TVR's

Between 2000 and 2010 and was fortunate enough to own two different TVR sports cars. I am not mechanically minded so just enjoyed driving them and - yes - showing off!

My first was a TVR S2. This was a 2.9 litre V6 in a traditional, almost retro, sports car style. There was no power steering, anti lock brakes or any other refinement - it was just a fun and fast sports car!

The "S" series was introduced in 1986/87 and went through 5 versions, the final one being a V8. There were a total of just over 2,500 of these cars made. There is some debate about how many S2's there were due to the fact that the S2 production ran into the S3 production and TVR in Blackpool were not very good at keeping records! Numbers vary from about 700 up to over 1,000 S2's.

My 1992 Griff

In 2003 I part exchanged the S2 for a 1992 TVR Griffith. This was a 4.3 litre V8 muscle car that, when new, would do 0-60 in a little over 4 seconds! Again it had no power steering or anti lock brakes so with this sort of power it really was "seat of the pants" driving - but great fun.

Sadly, when I was made redundant in 2010 I was also running a Merc S class and Di's car and felt I couldn't justify all 3 and needed the Merc for my new consultancy business, so the Griff had to go, so ended 10 very enjoyable years with TVRs. One day perhaps...

I started writing articles for the TVR Car Club magazine (TVR SPRINT) which became a semi regular feature under the heading of Morgan's Mutterings. You can access any of them and read them here.
