Background to Meandi English Setters
When Di was growing up her Uncle Jack, who had a farm just outside Droitwich, had an English Setter called Roger and it was a dog that Di was particularly fond of. From an early age Di has loved dogs and it wasn't unknown for her to bring home a stray dog hoping that her parents would allow her to keep it! She eventually did have her own dog, Effie, a scruffy but loveable cross breed, but it was 3 years after our marriage that we purchased our first English Setter.

The Meandi English Setter Story (so far)
That first purchase, of UPPERWOOD ELUSIVE, our first and much treasured English Setter, “Ella”, started the MEANDI kennel in 1975.
The picture on the right shows Ella's puppies - the first litter we ever bred - see below.
Ella's only litter was by Willowsett Warbeck of Upperwood, and an orange belton bitch was retained - MEANDI MERRIE MAY – “Merrie”. These two were our delightful introduction to this wonderful and beautiful breed. Both full of character and humour, and with that typical kind and loving Setter temperament.

Flint and Ella
|In 1980 SCRATCHWOOD FLINTWINCH OF MEANDI, “Flint” - a tricolour dog by Sh. Ch.Bournehouse Dancing Master out of Sh. Ch. Monksriding Amazing Grace of Scratchwood joined us|
He was followed by “Amber” - PENMARTEN AMBER KISS OF MEANDI, also by Sh.Ch. B. Dancing Master. These two were campaigned successfully at all level of shows, and represented the kennel at CRUFTS, and other major shows.
NB The picture on the left also shows that Dave at least DID at one time know how to present an English Setter - but going by the hair and moustache it was a long time ago!
Magic and Rose
In 1988 Amber had a litter by Sh.Ch. Snowstorm of Upperwood, and “Magic” - MEANDI MAGIC MOMENT was kept and shown as a youngster despite her wilful and unco-operative nature! The show life was not for her, and her happiest times were spent galloping round the local hills, wading in unmentionable stagnant pools, and heading for the next county!
Left picture shows Magic with Rose in the garden in 1992. For more information about Rose see the Whippet page.
In the early 1990’s “Ritz” -LARKTOWER STORM - a tricolour dog by Sh.Ch. Mariglen Pace, owned in partnership with breeder Eric Watson, was shown. A dog of character and presence, who enjoyed the show business with enthusiasm. He won a Res.CC. and his stud book no. and also represented us at CRUFTS. He came to live at MEANDI in 1995, originally for a short few week stay, but ended up with us for the rest of his life!?>
1998 saw another partnership , this time with the famous MARIGLEN kennel of Jane Dennis, with joint ownership of the superb tricolour bitch SH.CH. MARIGLEN STEALS THE SCENE JW – “Sybil” -by Sh.Ch.Elmwood Escapade From Quensha, out of Sh.Ch. Mariglen Talking Pictures. A delight to handle, and a very willing, sound and consistent showgirl, she is sadly missed.
The next addition to the Setter family was MARIGEN STEALS THE HEART OF MEANDI, “Millie” a daughter of Sybil and Sh Ch Cumbersett Aira Force with Mariglen. Millie is a lovely Setter who is a Championship Show Winner and placed in most shows attended, but actually prefers playing in the garden with her Whippet pal Mabel.
She is now doing well in the ring as a Veteran and has won at a number of CH and Open shows including wins at "MESS", where she went BIS at the November 2012 Open Show and won Best Veteran Bitch at the 2012 and 2013 CH shows. She was also 2nd at Crufts 2014.
After winning Best Veteran in Show at MESS 2015 Millie has now retired. She will always be very special in the Meandi household.

We were delighted to introduce a new partnership, this time with Annette Ball (Beaverhill) in the blue dog GEMSETT I AM LEGEND "Denver" bred by Linda Harris on 26th April 2008. Sire was Sh Ch Mariglen Pengtsson's Legacy JW, Dam Gemsett Wilma Joins Forces. Denver was a joy to own and a pleasure to show and qualified for Crufts at 6 months old. In his first year of showing he had 14 firsts and only unplaced once. He showed with enthusiasm for all his handlers, who have included Annette Ball, Di Morgan, Jane Dennis and his breeder, Linda Harris. He won Res CC at MESS 2010 and was consitently placed at all shows. Beautifully presented and usually handled by Annette.
In 2016 we are delighted to announce a new partnership with the "Mariglens" of Jane Dennis and the "Gemsetts" of Linda Harris. This is the import "NATTASET SONATA ARCTICA" a blue bitch (see the Mariglen website for pedigree) born August 2015.
She has made an excellent start with B.P.I.S. at the E.S.S. of Wales Ch. Show on her first outing.
Di’s judging career (so far)
Di served the breed on the Midland English Setter Society committee for 20 years, helping on the breed stand, organizing Discover Dogs at CRUFTS, and editing the newsletter- Mess Musings for a number of years. Di also helped in the production of the Mess Video on the breed, and has helped in the running of several seminars for up and coming judges. She began judging in 1987 and judged at MESS and the English Setter Society of Wales open shows, before the great honour of awarding CC’s for the first time at the City of Birmingham show in 2003. She also awarded CC’s at Darlington, Manchester and MESS (dogs) in 2014.
